I’m not sure exactly how to articulate it but—there is this bizarre base assumption i see from people discoursing about children’s media, and that’s the assumption that children are somehow unfamiliar with negative emotions. Like, maybe you’ve managed to completely forget your entire life before you turned eighteen, but kids spend a lot of time being hurt, and scared, and angry. A lot of people had terrible fucking childhoods, and a lot of kids are having terrible fucking childhoods right now. When i was a child, and i read books where bad things happened to kids, that was in no way shocking to me, i already knew bad things happened to children. It made me feel more connected to those stories, not less, and it made it more impactful when those child characters overcame it all in the end. That’s important for children. A lot of them are in desperate need of a little hope, and they aren’t going to get it from nothing stories with no conflict. They put conflict in children’s media for a reason
Also i see some of you handwringing over child protagonists going through, like, the most basic hero’s journey. Please, for the love of god, realize that you as an adult are going to understand children’s media differently than the actual kids it’s intended for. Because you’re all grown up now, you aren’t going to be able to relate to a child protagonist. You’re going to see a child in danger. The children the story is meant for are going to see a kid like them who is able to face hardship and triumph
#some people acting like there’s an actual danger kids are going to be inspired to go on dangerous quests and get themselves killed#what if the kids try to fight an actual dragon 😱#what if they take on a real evil wizard without parental supervision 😱

Decided why not actually post my drawings of dragon! Wels
Okay but
Dragon Hybrid!Welsknight
does this exist somewhere because if so I need it
#Anygays#the reason I don't usually draw Wels with his horns+his tail is bcs I headcanon that he usually hides it with shapeshifting or glamour#But he can easily slip back into his actual form due to high emotions#btw he hides his horns and tail bcs it'd be somewhat disconcerting to some ppl that a knight meant to slay the dragon#is actually a dragon themselves#and most ppl just assume that he's some kind of elf when meeting bcs of that#also it's super amusing to me that this man is somehow the damsel the knight AND the dragon all at the same time#also rather ironic bcs his armour has a WHOLE BUNCH of angel imagery on it#btw the main inspiration for his dragon features (minus the colours) is acc dollightfull's air dragon doll!#i loved the idea that Wels could be an air dragon while Hels could be an earth dragon#love direct opposites#also also on that drawing of Wels saying 'you lied to me'#the faint doodles to the side of it was done by my sister#my oldest sister to be exact#another thing is that he's not ashamed that he's a dragon in the slightest#the only reason he still keeps his glamour up is bcs it's second nature#and it's funny to prank new ppl with sometimes#ALSO!! VERY IMPORTANT NOTE!!!#Wels has no wings and neither does Hels#very VERY important to me#don't ask why#oh my gosh the amount i've yapped abt Wels being a dragon is slightly concerning#i don't think i'm very Normal abt this man#welsknight#welsknight fanart#honeys art#honeys rambles

'my cousin is all stomach and no heart' is such a funny thing for illario to tell rook if he maybe is picking up on a little bit of a Vibe going on there. the 'LMAO. well good luck with that friend. better hotties than you have tried and failed and dashed themselves against the legendarily unamorous cliffs of my cousin's complete obliviousness and lack of interest to no avail. Prompt 181
“Hey. Hey Tuck. Tucker. Tuck look. Look.”
Tucker looked over the edge of the screen lazily, the half interested words on his tongue dying as he let out a wheeze of laughter. “Oh my Ancient Sands, dude, how did you manage that?”
Danny had, for the last near year, been trying to mix shapeshifting, thank you Amorpho, with duplication. Something he’d apparently succeeded in today, if the massive fuck-you hydra standing before him was any indication. The very pleased looking, well did it count as a hydra if it had wings too?
“You need to show Sam. Oh my Sands we need to show Val too. And Wes. You did it dude!” He floated up to look at Danny, who did a little twirl to show off. He shook his head, flecks of gold and sand falling from his hair as he laughed.
“Do you think,” Danny lost it in laughter as several other heads echoed his words, from whichever the main him was. “Holy ancients that’s great- do, do you think we can make a dragon club? Hydras are totally dragons right? Do you think we could pull a Tiamat?”
He landed on a head, taking a selfie to add to the groupchat labeled Preparations. “Dude, we should, but let me send this to the others first… But I am so down.”
They can, in fact apparently, pull a Tiamat- with a little help from Princess Dora, practice in front of Frostbite in case something goes wrong, and some advice from Pandora on controlling extra limbs. Honestly, who is going to want to mess with Amity when there’s a giant dragon? And hey, maybe they can break the barrier now!
The heads for those wondering who I was thinking of for each lol And perhaps what they might all get ((1) Kwan, Pressurized Water) ((2) Wes, Sonic Blast) ((3) Sam, Poison Gas) ((4) Star, Plasma) ((5) Danny, Ice Breath) ((6) Paulina, Acid) ((7) Tucker, Electricity) ((8) Valerie, Fire Breath) ((9) Dash, Pressurized Wind)
#Prompts#The Class Pulls a Tiamat#They’re all adults and graduated#But can’t exactly go anywhere thanks to the shield/barrier around the town#The whole town is now liminal as hell thx to the ecto having nowhere to disperse#Bounced back from the shield back into the city from the portal#Dcxdp#Dpxdc#Dp x Marvel#Whichever works for u#Amity is under an info blackout thanks to the barrier#They have no idea what’s happening outside#Hey if they can’t break the barrier themselves they’ll just combine their might together#Liminal Amity Park#The group when they succeed in becoming dragon: We are Death Destroyer of Worlds#The GIW panic and call heroes in when a Very Big THING not only approaches the ghost shield#but actually looks like it might get through#The rest of Amity might pull a Become Dragon too but honestly up to yall#Amity: Ghosts are illegal but dragons aren't!

I think the reason why Alys Rivers is the character I have enjoyed most this season is because she brings a unique, less privileged perspective (much like mysaria) and most importantly, She’s the only character female character that they have allowed to be morally grey and maintain a sense of agency. Unlike the main female characters who sit on councils wringing their hands unable to make decisions or being stripped of any agency during the war efforts that they should be leading. Alys clearly has the upper hand in her dynamic with daemon, she’s drugging him and invading his mind which definitely not a moral thing to be doing even if it feels like daemon deserves it. She exploits the image that someone like daemon might have of her - a powerless, bastard woman - when we know she is far from powerless. She’s also shown to care about the crimes being inflicted on the riverlands and it’s people, her people, which shows she has motive and good reason for messing with daemon, she’s not just tormenting him for fun. Alys is allowed to be a complex character with questionable methods and unclear motives but at the same time she’s a character that we can root for, an underdog who understands the cost of war on the innocents.
#i like the theory that she is actually a god or an ancient being esp with some targs believing themselves to be closer to gods than men#alys being an actual god who brings two arrogant targs with god complexes to their deaths would be peak comedy#alys rivers#house of the dragon#hotd

okay but the subtle detail of tyland trailing off every time Jaehaerys kept taking the little orb thing made me howl with laughter, not because he was annoyed (even though obviously he was) but because they're not allowed to talk in the meeting without the orb being there.
jaehaerys really said "oh cool a ball, also shut up nerd"
#that whole entire scene made me laugh way too hard#this is actually the start of the Lannisters hate foe Targaryens btw they told me themselves#everything tywin did to aerys and rhaegar much later? it started with that orb#house of the dragon#hotd season 2#hotd spoilers#kinda?#jaehaerys targaryen#tyland lannister

damn it's almost like killing off the only reason the modern story existed destroys your plot? it's almost as if the modern story wasn't interesting bc of the war or the artifacts but bc of the characters themselves? it's almost like making the templars win every time makes the modern plot stale and pointless bc that's what happens when writers insert their own bias into narratives? crazy thought
#coming back from the dead to be bitter#been bitter about a lot of things lately do not get me started on the new dragon age game what a shitshow#assassin's creed#desmond miles#six speaks#failing is too generous of a world they have beat this franchise into the ground and have completely obliterated its identity#it needs to be put down no one with a brain wants this slop anymore#ubisoft will blame anyone but themselves for thier garbage decisions#embarrassing#pathetic actually

As much as I would enjoy a kiss at their reunion, I do think the dragon prince crew would do something softer when (not if <-clown emoji) Sorvus is made canon. I'm picturing Corvus and Ezran and Callum arriving at the castle like in the promo image, them checking up with Opeli and she reveals everything is fine.
But Corvus asks about Soren. "Where is he?" he asks, his mind already wandering to the possibility that Soren...hadn't made it out. He will himself to remain strong for his king, but his body fills with dread. Thankfully, Opeli points him to the river.
There, Soren sits on the banks. Corvus sits beside him, noticing the same pained look in his eyes that he had seen on the ramparts the day Soren asked him to become a crownguard. Now, that same pain encompassed how he sat, how he stared mournfully into the waters.
Corvus asks is he is alright, and Soren can't even answer, holding back what emotion he can to maintain his cheerful attitude. He is failing miserably. Something more terrible than the Storm Spire must have happened. Something worse than Katolis burning down.
Corvus lays his hand over Soren's on the rock. Soren looks from it to Corvus, then shifts so that he can hold Corvus's hand back.
Like Janai and Amaya, its a confirmation.
and, of course, at the end of arc 2 or start of arc 3 (affirm affrim, manifest manifest, like to charge reblog to cast) then we get a kiss, teehee
#the dragon prince#soren tdp#corvus tdp#sorvus#Wrote clown emoji instead of putting the actual emoji cause I'm on desktop#I add the clown emoji because as much as they are waving those gay and bisexual flags around#as much as the crew is saying “couple dynamic” in interviews#or as much as Jesse Inocalla is calling Corvus a black cat girlfriend in podcasts#I have been burned before by two men that are a bit more than platonic in how they act#and I am not immune to being ashamed by people who say things like#oh#I only see them as really good friends. They won't be canon#or even worse#“we need more healthy male friendships”#as if they actually care about that kind of thing over shaming mlm who want to see themselves#in a silly little cartoon#so until they are canon (affirm affirm)#I will keep my hopes down if only so I won't be embarassed by people who said#i told you so#sorry for rant but that's how I feel

I finally got why I love so much the "dragons are gone" ending in the books while I hate it in the movies:
The books set the dragons free.
The movies simply sent them away.
That's basically the idea but I had a vision yesterday at 3am so I will be getting into detail below the cut.
The books have a very strong message about slavery. Some would say that it is a concept that is only important within the context of the last five or four books, but the ones that have been paying attention to the saga as a whole knows that there are things happening in the background. You know, stuff like
People eating dragons
People stealing dragons from their families so
The dragons can serve the vikings
And they're expected to obey because
People threaten to turn them into bags.
That's mostly the first book.
Dragons are constantly showed as unsatisfied with the status quo trough out the books, some more annoyed with the vikings than others. We have complete monologues from different dragons before the war is even a possibility. Sincerely, when it happens, it feels natural.
The idea of freeing the dragons is not one that comes up in the last book, not even close. The first time it is considered an option is in book 9 (I think), and, by the time being, we've already stablish lots of concepts as slavery within human beings, the dangers of a war, how this could lead to the end of all and freeing the dragons is the only option.
It is fatalist to say the least, but it's not going out of nowhere. There is a lot of worldbuilding (more on that later), but it is also the right thing to do. By the time Hiccup is presenting the option, Cowell has made us root for the dragons to be free and wild and do whatever they want, even if what they want is to hide under sea for thousands of years. Or if they don't want, or if the want to but just not in that moment, they can do it.
Oh, yes, because they leave GRADUALLY.
It is a sad ending, but still manages to get as satisfactory because, yet again, we know this happens and the books remind us this will happen eventually every time they can. “There were dragons when I was a boy” is literally the first phrase in the saga.
And then we got the movies.
The movies never followed the books. Like, not very much. The writers decided that they wanted to tell a story of a broken relationship between a father and a son while using dragons, the heroic and prophetic aspects of the books were getting on the way of that and they scrapped the idea. So, no, you can't tell me the movies actually follow the books.
However, if you're very technical, you know the Hiccup we see in the movies resembles Hiccup I, the one that stopped the war between vikings and dragons in the books, stablishing an equal relation between the two races. And this idea of the movies being a prequel can work for the second and specially the first movie, disregarding the fact that there are no prophetic or magical elements at all.
But THW exist and... Exist.
Suddenly the writers and producers decide that they want to follow the books and want to get rid of the dragons, something that is completely against the message of the other two movies.
(I am just talking about the movies, the shows-books relationship is very different and I will someday make a post ranting about it)
The movies do NOT talk about the dangers of dragons being with vikings or how the vikings mistreat the dragons or how bad is slavery or anything like that. The second movie does, yes, but the second movie also sends a message about how people benefit of being with dragons. They have their dragons and they're strong because of that friendship. Being at war with one another only brings loss and suffering for both bands while being together promises an actual future. A bright future that no one imagined before the first movie and that now they cling to.
Dragons and vikings are friends and together cand do basically anything.
That's a very strong message, you know?
And you know what? The third movie decided that such a strong and important message about friendship should leave the franchise completely.
“Free the dragons” it's a concept that doesn't fit with the movies. They're not slaved, they're not away from wildness and, most importantly, they CHOOSE to be with the vikings in the first place. They are already equals, they can do what they want and, you know, they are with the vikings because they want to.
But no, let's do a movie about letting friends go as if it could actually fit in the saga.
(I know it could actually fit but the execution was terrible).
As I said before, the movies resembles Hiccup I befriending dragons and we know how it ends. And someone who has never read the books will go and say "well, it was bound to end that way, why are you mad?” I tell you the difference right now: there's 1000 years of difference between the befriending and the parting in the book, 1000 years in wich we witness the deterioration of said friendship (from being friends and equals to being slaves). That's no what happens in the movies. The films give us 6 years and the only deterioration is within Toothless' character and how they made him a horny dog.
The dragons shouldn't have leave. This was a whim from the writers that thought that ending both stories the same way would be cool. It isn't. At all.
Long story short, it doesn't fit thematically. The movies and the books have different themes with different concepts and different characterizations of the dragons. While the books got story building and present the theme's since the beginning, the movies get it out of no where ignoring the themes in previous works.
Anyways, go read the books they're jewels and the ending isn't as shitty as thw make it look
#httyd#how to train your dragon#httyd 2#httyd the hidden world#httyd book#httyd books#im angry about the ending#probably because I'm watching rtte and i llve the relationship wuth the dragons#and the characters themselves#freeing the dragons is an actual theme in rtte but not in the movies#that's sad#also i don't think the shows follow better the books but#they actually use themes from them#english is not my first language#sorry if i wrote anything wrong#i love the films#i know it sounds as if i hate them but i don't#they're basically my favourite movies of all time
